Artistic Reflections of Management Research – Exhibition with Parametric Figures by wi1
This year is the centenary of the FAU School of Business, Economics and Society (WiSo). To celebrate this anniversary, regional artists have been invited to present their view of management research at the FAU building in Findelgasse for the next six months. The exhibition includes a position by members of the wi1 chair. Their work is a comment on digital technology and the knowledge society.
Management researchers are used to study how digitization transforms industry. The wi1 artwork inverts the perspective: scientific publications become the object of industrial production. A 3d-printer turns the texts into physical objects whose shapes depend on different properties of their content, such as the number of calculations or the frequency of specific keywords. Other parameters related to social conditions at the time when the texts were written are also taken into account. The printer will be installed in the public area of our university building to make the process of knowledge production visible for everyone. Current progress and meta-data of the objects will be shown on a screen.
The project was conceived and realized by Albrecht Fritzsche and Max Jalowski, together with the 3d-print project group at wi1, consisting of the bachelor students Florian Hummel, Armin Mooseder, Dennis Possart and Jaromir Vogt. Yves Ebnöther, professor for computer generated object design at TH Nuremberg provided highly valuable inspiration and support throughout the process.
The grand opening of the exhibition will take place on Monday, 18 March, 16:30h at Findelgasse 7/9, 90402 Nürnberg, in the presence of the dean of the faculty of business, economics and law, the university’s vice-president, and the artists.
