Which drivers and barriers are responsible for that employees involve in Open Innovation processes, and in which ways can these innovations processes be realized in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)? The research project Open-I, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), strives to find answers to these questions. The concept of Open Innovation comprises voluntary involvement in innovation processes across teams, departments, and organizational units. In order to enable all employees to engage in Open Innovation processes, Social Software applications are developed and tested during the Open-I project. Ultimately, the aim is to enhance the innovation capacity of SMEs.
