Dr. Barbian has been working as a Research Assistant at the Chair for Information Systems at the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany since 1998. She currently researches different fields of information systems (IS), such as, forecasting models, public accounts for citizens and grand challenges in IS. Her main research interest lies in Sustainable Development.
Dr. Barbian holds a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management (with emphasis on plastics technology) from the University of Paderborn (Germany).
After finishing her Master’s she worked as a consultant in a medium-sized company in the field of ecological process technology in Saarbrücken (Germany), involved in the certification of companies (food and beverage industry) according to EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme).
In 2000 she received her doctoral degree from the Faculty of Economics (specializing in Environmental Economics) of the University of Kaiserslautern (Germany). Her doctoral thesis on “Economics and Sustainable Development – An Approach on the Implementation of Sustainability” was published in 2001. In 2011, 2012 and 2013 she was a Visiting Professor at Aarhus Summer University (Denmark) lecturing on “Sustainable Development and Macroeconomics”. In 2014 she held a workshop at the University of Sofia.
