Julian Kurtz completed his studies in Industrial Engineering and Management at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Karlsruhe. He gained practical experience at companies such as BOSCH, EnBW, TRUMPF, and Hilti. At the Friedrich-Alexander-University, he works as a research associate at the Chair of Information Systems, Innovation and Value Creation, since 2021.

His research pursuits encompass Servitization, Digital Service Innovation, and Operations Management. He concentrates on guiding manufacturing firms through a successful transition from traditional business models to service-oriented ones. His specialised focus lies in managing internal transformation activities within manufacturing industries. Julian has contributed to the “SmartHaPSSS” research project, and managed the “Siemens Service Factory“. He is in charge of the “Next Big Thing” project at uvex.

Beyond his research, Julian actively participates in the international research community associated with the chair. In the months of September and October 2023, he undertook a research visit to Prof. Srinivasan at the IIM Bangalore in India, delving deeply into the design of digital platforms. Since January 2024, he has held the position of a visiting research fellow at the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) at the University of Cambridge. Collaborating with Prof. Veronica Martinez, their joint focus revolves around the digitalisation aspect of manufacturing firms transitioning towards a service-oriented business model.
